As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. Luke 10:38-39 (NLT)

8 Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes. Psalm 112:6-8New International Version (NIV)

It is possible (in fact it’s God’s plan for us), to be people who are not shaken… not driven by our emotions.

The fear of bad news – Parents of driving teenagers, emails, church volunteers, report cards,

Wives – “We need to talk.”

Transition: We all want a “GOOD REPORT” But bad reports are inevitable…What do we do with bad news?

When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, “Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country. 18 See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many. 19 What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified? 20 How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees in it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land.” (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)

23 When they reached the Valley of Eshkol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs. 24 That place was called the Valley of Eshkol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there. 25 At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.

26 They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. 27 They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. 28But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.”

30 Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”

31 But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” 32 And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. Numbers 13:17-32 (NIV)

(What happened next…)

Transition: I believe that there are times in our life that we are missing out on what God wants to do in our life… because we don’t have the courage to trust God when the bad report comes.

When you receive a bad report… there are 3 questions you need to ask yourself:

1. What Has Already Been Promised?

God’s word is FULL of incredible promises… (Not a distant God… but active in out life)

Examples – ( Peace, close to the broken hearted, our sin was buried, a new mind, healing…)

For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NLT)

Some of us hear the bad report… and immediately forget what God has promised.

The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Exodus 3:7-8 (NIV)

Over 170 times – “The Land I HAVE given you.”

The thing they were scared of… is the thing that God had already promised victory over.

There are things in our life that happen… that we can’t control… that don’t make sense… and we allow them to steal from us what God has already promised.

Stories that are “Already Written” (Pastor / West Wing)

Some of us approach our day… situation… with a story that is already written… based on what we believe about God. (Heart – Thoughts)

He tells them to size up their situation… not THEIR ability to handle it. (Explain)

It’s ok to size up your SITUATION, but don’t try to size up your to handle it.

If it’s your situation… you CAN handle it.

The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. 8 The Lord gives his people strength. Psalm 28:7-8 (NLT)

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. Psalm 18:2NLT)

2. What is My Reality?

27 They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.

28But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. Numbers 13:27-28

Reality = things as they actually exist

That makes sense… but many of us don’t SEE things as they actually exist!

Grapes = reality (Look at the blessing… look at what God wants to give us…)

Report = perspective

We don’t experience our REALITY… we experience our PERSPECTIVE.

Remember… WE can control the environment of our heart… WE can think different… which will alter our perspective.

You can be staring at the reality of God’s faithfulness in your life… but so afraid of the giants that you never experience the blessing.

The news is the issue… the report is your interpretation.

Fear can turn good news into a bad report.

There were 12 people. Same reality. Different perspective.

I would if I could. NO you could if you would!

You can claim what God has given you… but still have to fight for it.

There is STILL action involved on our part… but when we choose to see HIS reality and not OUR perspective… we will take hold of the blessings He has for us!

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)

3. What Report Will I Believe?

30 Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”

31 But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” Numbers 13:30-31

All 12 saw the same reality…2 believed a different report.

The report you BELIEVE is more important than the news you RECEIVE.

There will be all kinds of reports… from all kinds of people… sources… opinions… what will you believe?

We don’t have to have good NEWS to believe a good REPORT.

Hope this will change the way you look at your situation… YOU CAN WRITE the report… before the news comes.

…The Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…

2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. 4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations. Isaiah 61:1-4 (NIV)

“What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Luke 18:27 (NIV)

Jesus IS _____, Week 2: Grace

Published: April 13, 2015, 11:29 p.m.
Duration: 32 minutes 45 seconds 1. Grace is not a goal we achieve but a gift we receive.

Question? How many of you have received a gift?

It’s either works or grace not both.

(Romans 11:6) (NIV) And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

Do you believe you were saved or you are STAYING saved because you earned it or because it was a free gift?

2. Grace is not cheap but it is free.

Crazy story of a man named Hosea in the OT. He is asked by God to go and pick out a wife. Not just any wife. A Prostitute... for a wife. You think that’s bad… her name was Gomer!

He rescues her…but she returns to her old ways… and look at what happens….

(Hosea 3:1)(NLT) Then the Lord said to me, “Go and love your wife again, even though she commits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the Lord still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them.”

The price Hosea paid for his wife was significant. The reason for the payment was because she probably had become the legal property of another man or because she was being redeemed from service as a cult prostitute.

As for the price Hosea paid for his wife, the amount seems to correspond to the price paid for a slave according to the law of the goring ox:

(Exodus 21:32)(NLT) But if the ox gores a slave, either male or female, the animal’s owner must pay the slave’s owner thirty silver coins, and the ox must be stoned.

According to Leviticus 27:4, thirty shekels of silver was also the value of a woman when calculating the fulfillment of a vow.

Jesus is Grace…. He is a gift… not earned.. He is not cheap but freely He gave his life.. for how much?

(Matthew 26:14-15) (NLT) Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests and asked, “How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?” And they gave him thirty pieces of silver.

The story of Hosea & Gomer was a picture of what was to come.

Jesus is Grace…. Jesus is the bride of Christ who gave His life, a gift for us to have for free.

3. Grace is not an earthly transaction but an eternal transformation.

Grace isn’t just a thing we receive for this earth…. It’s a transformation that will take us from here to eternity.

(1 John 5:13)(NLT) I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

(Romans 6:23)(NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Listen, is anyone thankful that because Jesus is Grace that we can join Him in heaven forever and forever?

It’s true…let me say it this way…

If by your sins you’ve been sentenced to Hell then…
By His grace you have been sentenced to Heaven.

Make no mistake about it… Jesus is Alive…and wants to bring to life those dead things in your life…but He is also Grace.

A free gift, not a cheap one…a high price was paid…. And it’s all so that we can join Him forever in Heaven.

4. The Cup of Praise - “I Will Take You As My Own People.” (Fulfilled Living)

There is a huge disconnect in so may of us… We’re saved… BUT WHY?

“Why am I here?”

Transition: The answer to that question is found in cup 3…

The Cup of Redemption

…I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.” Exodus 6:6 (NIV)

Redeem:

1. To buy back or repurchase (Owned by someone else… wrong place… Jesus)

2. To change for better or reform (Low goals… most people… good = no bad)

3. Repair or restore(A restored car… back to its original intent, but now it’s priceless!!)

Transition: Ok… if this is God’s plan (which sounds great) why do so few experience it?

The answer… is actually found in the promise.

I’m going to redeem you, and I’m going to do it 2 ways.

…I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.” Exodus 6:6 (NIV)

Why an outstretched arm? Most you are in a place much lower than God sees us.

He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.Psalm 40:2 (NLT)

Or lets put it this way… Most of us don’t see ourselves the way God sees us.

“Low… broken…going to heaven, but have nothing to offer… nothing you can work with.”

Two things that keep us from experience this promise:

1. Inferiority

We don’t see the greatness that God sees in us… (Sinners, wretched, Ready Now)

True… BUT then you met God. He does not want you to maintain that view. HE wants to lift you out.

…Your right hand has held me up, your gentleness has made me great. Psalm 18:35 (NKJV)

Inferiority leads to insecurity, which affects our identity.

This is why so many of us are driven by what others think…

(Growing up…insecure… middle school… high school… music…my first message)

The more I learned to see myself the way God sees me, the more I stopped trying to prove myself and find acceptance through human approval… and the more I learned to walk confidently in my identity.

Too often we see life through the rear view mirror… instead of looking straight ahead to what God sees.

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the powerof the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:1-2 (NLT)

So how does God see us?

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

God sees things in you that you don’t see in yourself… and honestly that other people don’t see as well. (Sibling rivalry)

Get GOD’S view of yourself… and others. (Honor = God’s view of people)

Transition: That’s part of His redemption plan… the other part is the second part of that verse.

…I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.” Exodus 6:6 (NIV)

Acts of judgment… but not against us… against our enemy.

The devil has a DIFFERENT plan for your life. (Do you how?)

2. DIVERSION

(The part God didn’t plan… but you lived.)

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 (NLT)

God’s judgment of the enemy… cancels His plan off of your life.

You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmedthe spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. Colossians 2:13-15 (NLT)

The enemy has no claim, debt, or authority on your life… and God is just waiting for us to realize it!

But…his plan of diversion is not just the bad things we’ve done or that have been done to us.

Success can be a diversion… we try to realign our identity and purpose by what WE can accomplish.

Regardless of how… the enemy is trying to divert us from living out our full purpose.

We wanted very much to come to you, and I, Paul, tried again and again, but Satan prevented us. 1 Thessalonians 2:18 (NLT)

Prevent = to stop progress

He can’t physically touch you… but He can touch your path. (Broken world)

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 (NLT)

(Map analogy… ANY path you have taken… there IS a road!)

God’s gifts and God’s call are under full warranty—never canceled, never rescinded. Romans 11:29 (MSG)

Which means… God has NEVER changed His mind about you. He never will.

He can always… redeem you. How?

How do we drink from the Cup of Redemption?

Spiritual Gifts …Simply put God has put something on the inside of you to do.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us… Romans 12:6(NIV)

Grace = Charis (Divine enablement)

Grace gift… something you are good and enjoy doing. (public speaking)

(Working with Kids… or my hands) …Music, helping the poor, leading others…GOD DID THAT!

Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts… 1 Corinthians 14:1 (NIV)

Go after it!! (Studies show that 87% of the body of Christ doesn’t know what their gift is)

We want to help you discover it… because when you do life gets fun.

God has better… He wants you to make a difference…live with purpose… to know why you are on this planet.

SO How do we?

1. Discover your gift

Your design reveals your destiny.

God had something for you to do, before he created you. (Not the other way around…)

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. Psalm 139:13-14 (NLT)

You are COMPLEX! (what you like, laugh at, do well, think about…)

HOW you were made… points to WHAT you are suppose to do.

The key to it all… is God. Schooling, success, ambition can’t do it.

It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. Ephesians 1:11-12 (MSG)

For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible... everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. Colossians 1:16(MSG)

2. Develop your Gift

It’s never perfect when you discover it…

Our job as a church… is to help you discover it. Growth Track

But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.

11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up… Ephesians 4:7,11-12(NIV)

3. Use Your Gift

This is when life gets fun… this is when you can lay your head down at night and be satisfied… yea you have problems… but life is fulfilling because what I do is bigger than my problems!

This is how you live…(Honor all who are using their gifts).

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)

Your real purpose is to serve God by serving others.

Our ultimate expression of worship is to love people on His behalf.

For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. Hebrews 6:10 (NLT)

17 Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. 18 For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.”

(Philippians 2:4) (NCV) Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others.

(Luke 14:15) (NLT) Hearing this, a man sitting at the table with Jesus exclaimed, “What a blessing it will be to attend a banquet in the Kingdom of God!”

(Luke 14:16-20) (NLT) Jesus replied with this story: “A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come, the banquet is ready.’ But they all began making excuses. One said, ‘I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I now have a wife, so I can’t come.’

(Luke 14:21) (NLT) The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious…

(Luke 14:21) (NLT) His master was furious and said, ‘Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’

The Underdogs to Invite:

1. The Poor – Those who have been cheated by the world.

2. The Crippled –Those who have been broken down by the world.

3. The Blind –Those who have never had a chance to see.

4. The Lame –Those who need a touch from Jesus.

(Luke 14:22-23) (NLT) After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’ So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.

The Anchor, Week 2: Where Does Hope Come From

Published: Aug. 22, 2013, 3:33 a.m.
Duration: 45 minutes 17 seconds

Today we are diving into our last message in our series, “THE ANCHOR” (The HOPE we have because of Jesus…)

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…Hebrews 6:19 (NIV)

Hope = Confident expectation based on something solid

“My hope is built on nothing less… than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.”

Maybe today you walked in, HOPELESS… If that’s you today, look around you, stop and ask someone to share their story.

Recap: What is HOPE? / Where does HOPE come from? / HOPE for my future

Our number one prayer for you is this… that you latch onto this HOPE we have in Jesus. HOPE that keeps us standing, when the entire world is shaken…HOPE that never fails. Because of this HOPE… we are anchored, secure…

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NIV)

Transition: Today we will look at our final thought on HOPE… What some call, THE BLESED HOPE…The ultimate hope that there really is something beyond this life. (Pray)

Story/Illustration:

Transition: You see, the hope we have is not solely to get through this life… but it’s hope NOW that there is another level of HOPE… Heaven.

With as much HOPE as we have now, we still face things… hard times, difficulties, obstacles.

(My Season of ministry… “Why can’t I find balance?” “Because this isn’t home.”)

We will have seasons of pain/suffering/frustration… and we learned a couple weeks ago that that is part of God’s process of producing HOPE in us.

3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope… Romans 5:2-4 (ESV)

The ultimate HOPE we have is that this life is NOT all there is… there is an eternity of JOY and PEACE that awaits us!

11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ… Titus 2:11-13 (NIV)

(Eternal life)

We have to change our focus… from just finding hope in this life, to living our life in light of our eternal hope…(Peoples efforts to find hope HERE)

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-15 (NIV)

The HOPE of Jesus is what has caused “Death to lose it’s Sting”…(1 cor. 15:55)

6 As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8 (NLT)

At the end of your life… and everyday… THIS is the goal (James… your life is but a vapor)

Heaven is a reality we need to live in… But there are a lot of misconceptions of Heave;

\\xa7 Clouds, robes, halos

\\xa7 Never ending church service (singing forever)

\\xa7 Celestial retirement home

\\xa7 So unreal…

Transition: But what does the bible say about Heaven?

1. Heaven is a REAL place

Revelation 21… talks all about the city of Heaven, New Jerusalem.

1400 miles in every direction / walls 200 ft. thick of solid jasper / 12 gates made from a single pearl / transparent streets of gold… amazing!

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:2-3 (NIV)

2. Heaven is a RIGHT place

Think about every wrong with this life… your life…

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Revelation 21:3-5 (NIV)

No pain, disappointment, insecurity, loss of innocence, worry, fear, bills, sickness...

3. Heaven is a RELATIONAL place

A place where you will see your loved ones who walked with Jesus… (Those who didn’t?)

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 (NIV)

4. Heaven is a REWARDING place

“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. Revelation 22:12 (NKJV)

Transition: That’s great that we have that to look forward to, but how do we have ETERNAL HOPE… Now?

1. Remove Your Doubt

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (NLT)

2. Replace Your Anxiety

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)

3. Refocus Your Energy

When we truly understand heaven… we will live different.

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV)

Big Idea: Hope is not some elusive idea or feeling that we are always chasing... Hope is not some cliche that hangs on our walls...

Hope is real... tangible... available.

Challenge: If we will commit to these 4 areas... Not only will we find supernatural levels of HOPE in our lives, but God will use us to carry that HOPE into our world...

Title to Message: Because We Love

(1 Corinthians 13:13) “In this life we have three lasting qualities -- faith, hope and love. But the greatest of them is love.”

(1 Corinthians 14:1) (NLT) “Let love be your highest goal…

(1 Corinthians 14:1) (MSG) “Go after a life of love as if your life depended on it—because it does.”

(1 John 2:9-11) “Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.”

(John 13:34-35) Jesus said, “A new commandment I give you: Love one another! As I have loved you, so you must love one another. All men will know you are my disciples if you love one another.”

Love means: Living for the other person’s good.

(Matthew 5:44) (NLT) But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

1. Without love, all that I say is ineffective.

(1 Corinthians 13:1) (NIV) “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.”

(Ephesians 4:15) (NLT) …We will speak the truth in love . . .

2. Without love, all that I know is incomplete.

(1 Corinthians 13:2) (NIV) “If I have the gift of prophecy, and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge... but do not have love, I am nothing.”

(1 Corinthians 8:1) (NIV) “…Knowledge puffs up while love builds up.”

3. Without love, all that I believe is insufficient.

(1 Corinthians 13:2) (NIV) “... and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”

(Galatians 5:6) (NIV) “... The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”

4. Without love, all that I give is insignificant.

(1 Corinthians 13:3) (NIV) “If I give all I possess to the poor... but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

5. Without love, all that I accomplish is inadequate.

(1 Corinthians 13:3) (NIV) “… (if I) give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”

Why do we love?

(1 John 4:19) (NLT) We love each other because he loved us first.

(1 Corinthians 13:7-8) (PHILLIPS) “Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything. It is, in fact, the one thing that still stands when all else has fallen.”

(Colossians 3:14) (LB) “Most of all, let love guide your life…”

We Serve, Week 3: Because We Are Free

Published: July 29, 2013, 2:51 a.m.
Duration: 39 minutes 34 seconds

Why do WE SERVE?

Title: Because We Are Free

(John 8:36) (NLT) So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

(Galatians 5:13) (CEV) My friends, you were chosen to be free. So don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do anything you want. Use it as an opportunity to serve each other with love.

(Luke 10:29) (NIV) But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

(Luke 10:30) (NIV) In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.

(Luke 10:31) (NIV) A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.

(Luke 10:31) (NIV) So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

You will always have an excuse to justify not getting involved.

1. Interruption

(Luke 10:33-34) (NIV) But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.

2. Contribution

(Luke 10:35) (NIV) The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

3. Transformation

(Luke 10:36-37) (NIV) “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

(Matthew 9:36) (NIV) When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

(Matthew 9:37-38) (NLT) He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”

(Philippians 2:20-21) (NIV) I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.

(1 John 3:16) (Message) This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves. If you see some brother or sister in need and have the means to do something about it but turn a cold shoulder and do nothing, what happens to God’s love? It disappears. And you made it disappear.

Title of Message: The Walk

(Luke 24:13) (NIV) Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.

(Luke 24:14-17) (NIV) They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”

(Luke 24:17-18) (NIV) They stood still, their faces downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

Observations from The Walk:

1. Jesus shows up at the worst moment.

(Luke 24:19-23) (NIV) “What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.

2. Jesus’ words will cause your heart to burn

(Luke 24:25-27) (NIV) He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

(Luke 24:31-32) (NIV) Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

3. Jesus will cause you to take hope back to where you lost it.

(Luke 24:33-35) (NIV) They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

(Hebrews 4:12) (NIV) For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Luke, Week 4: The Prayer

Published: July 8, 2013, 1:55 a.m.
Duration: 32 minutes 24 seconds

We would experience the POWER that comes from the stories for ourselves.

(Luke 18:35-37) (NIV) As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”

(Luke 18:38-39) (NIV) He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

(Luke 18:40-42) (NIV) Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”

(Luke 18:43) (NIV) Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.

How to pray:

1. Pray with urgency

(Psalm 142:1) (NLT) I cry out to the Lord; I plead for the Lord’s mercy.

2. Pray with perseverance

(Matthew 7:7)(NIV) Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

(Luke 18:39) (NIV) Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

(Colossians 4:2) (GNT) Be persistent in prayer, and keep alert as you pray, giving thanks to God.

(1 Thessalonians 5:17) (NLT) Never stop praying.

3. Pray specifics

(Luke 18:41) (NIV) Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

4. Pray with faith

"Heaven is full of answers to prayer for which no one bothered to ask." –Billy Graham

(Jeremiah 33:3) (NIV) Call to me and I will answer you…

(Job 30:20) (NIV) “I cry out to you, God, but you do not answer; I stand up, but you merely look at me.

(Hebrews 11:39) (NIV) These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised,

(Hebrews 11:40) (NIV) God had planned something better…

5. Pray with a heart of thankfulness

(Luke 18:43) (NIV) Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.

(Isaiah 59:10) (NLT) We grope like the blind along a wall, feeling our way like people without eyes. Even at brightest noontime, we stumble as though it were dark. Among the living, we are like the dead.

Tree of Life, Week 2: Law vs Grace

Published: April 24, 2013, 2:35 a.m.
Duration: N/A

Don’t miss this compelling look at the very first relational story in the Bible. Within this incredible story lies absolutes that define how we read and interpret the rest of the Bible but most importantly how we live as followers of Jesus.

Title of message is: Law vs. Grace.

Living in the Tree of life means: Making choices that lead to life.

Living in the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil means: Making choices that lead to death.

(Proverbs 14:12) (NLT) There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.

(Genesis 3:6) (NIV) When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

MISGUIDED MYTHS

(2 Timothy 4:3-4) (NIV) For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

1. If I do something wrong, I should do something right.

2. If I do something right, I deserve something good.

(Galatians 3:1) (NLT) Oh, foolish Galatians! Who has cast an evil spell on you?

(Galatians 3:1-2) (NLT) For the meaning of Jesus Christ’s death was made as clear to you as if you had seen a picture of his death on the cross. Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ.

(Galatians 3:3) (NLT) How foolish can you be? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?

(Galatians 3:10) (NLT) But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, “Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God’s Book of the Law.”

(Galatians 3:11) (NLT) So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

(Galatians 3:19) (NLT) Why, then, was the law given?

(Galatians 3:24-25) (NLT) Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.

1. Where there is no law, there is no sin.

2. The Law leads us to Christ

Grace is:

1. G - God’s gift to me.

(Romans 6:23) (NIV) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord

2. R - Received by faith.

(Ephesians 2:8-9) (NIV) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

(Romans 4:16) (NCV) So people receive God’s promise by having faith. This happens so the promise can be a free gift.

3. A- Available to everyone.

(Romans 10:13) (NLT) “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

4. C- Comes through Christ.

(John 1:17) (NIV) For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

(Romans 5:15) (NCV) …many people died because of the sin of that one man. But the grace from God was much greater; many people received God’s gift of life by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ.

(Galatians 2:21) (NLT) I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

5. E - Extended throughout eternity.

(Romans 6:1-2) (NLT) Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not!

(Isaiah 30:18) (NIV) ...the Lord longs to be gracious to you.

In Case of Fire, Week 1: In My Life

Published: Feb. 3, 2013, 5:13 p.m.
Duration: 39 minutes 57 seconds

(Matthew 19:26) (NIV84) Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

(Hebrews 12:2) (MSG) Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever.

(Hebrews 12:3) (MSG) When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!

Fear and insecurity are two pieces of evidence that I do not have my eyes focused on Jesus! – Perry Noble

(Job 3:23) (MSG) “What’s the point of life when it doesn’t make sense, when God blocks all the roads to meaning?”

Until I get to heaven, there are some things I will never understand.

Title of Message: In My life

How to survive a fire in my life:

1. STOP thinking earthly thoughts.

START thinking eternal.

(Job 42:2) (NLT) “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. “You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.

(Isaiah 55:8-9)(CEB) “My plans aren’t your plans, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my plans than your plans.

2. DROP the Reigns of Control.

(Proverbs 3:5-6) (NLT) Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

(Psalm 32:8) (NLT) The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.

PICK UP the promises of God.

(Jeremiah 29:11) (NLT) For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

(Proverbs 19:21) (NIV84) Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

3. ROLL up your sleeves.

Go Forward in Faith.

(Ephesians 6:11) (NLT) Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

(Ephesians 6:14) (NLT) Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.

(Ephesians 6:15) (NLT) For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.

(Ephesians 6:16) (NLT) In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.

(Ephesians 6:17) (NLT) Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Random acts of greatness pale in comparison to habitual acts of faithfulness.

(James 5:11) (MSG) “Youʼve heard, of course, of Jobʼs staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That\'s because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.”

Who's In Your Boat (Pastor Scott Drummond)

Who’s in your boat?

Scott Drummond

12/30/2012

Matthew 8:23-27

Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.

The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”

Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

Mark 4:35-41

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.

There were also other boats with him.

A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don\'t you care if we drown?"

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"

They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.

Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Love Came Down, Week 4: To Give Me Peace

Published: Jan. 1, 2013, 7:19 p.m.
Duration: 35 minutes 46 seconds

Title of Message: To bring me peace

(John 6:51) (NLT) I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”

(Luke 2:6-7) “While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

(Luke 12:51) “Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.”

(John 16:33) “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

The Peace Predicament

1. Unavoidable circumstances.

(Jeremiah 4:20) “Disaster follows disaster; the whole land lies in ruins. In an instant my tents are destroyed, my shelter in a moment.”

2. Unbearable people.

(Psalms 109:3) “With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause.”

3. Unexplainable problems.

(Matthew 27:46) “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

(Luke 2:10-14) “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

(Luke 2:14) (GW) “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those who have his good will!”

(John 14:27)(LB) “I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

Find the favor of God by:

1. Receiving God’s pardon.

(Romans 5:1) “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

2. Running to God’s presence.

(Isaiah 26:3) “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”

3. Respecting God’s principles.

(Psalm 119:165) “Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.”

Financial Margin Message

How many live occasionally with financial stress?

See how normal this is for us?

Financial margin is having $3000 come in for the month and spending $2500. You are left with $500 in margin

If you get n $3000 and spend $3000 how much margin do you have? 0

If you get in $3000 and spend $3500 you are over the edge

Margin – the distance from where you are to the edge of the cliff

Freedom to give without stress

Money to purchase time margin

Money to do something you have wanted to do

Ability to be at rest

Most people do not have financial margin

Prov. 21:20 The wise store up choice food and olive oil,
but fools gulp theirs down

But a foolish person lives paycheck to paycheck

This is not dependent on income

In the house of the WISE is more than enough

Wise way and foolish way of doing things

friend – wealthy friends not living with margin

Fighting to keep up with their lifestyle

Other friend – plain, house…peace in this home

Most people with an untrained eye would say, “they are not rich”

But that is wrong.

Home with margin is rich in what matters most

Verse.

I timothy 6 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Godliness with contentment is great gain…

Cultures definition of happiness

Most of us have lifestyle way past margin

Its not an income problem, it’s a lifestyle problem

Not a lifestyle problem but a spiritual problem

Matthew verse… 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

So what do we do?

Earn more or spend less…

But you are smart and already know that.

The problem is a deeper root problem

How do we create margin?

You must put God first in your finances

Tithe – you will experience God’s blessings

Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

2 key principles:

1. When we bring our first and our best, God will bless the rest

Tithing builds our faith

2. When you put God first you will be supernaturally content

Proverbs 15:16 Better a little with the fear of the Lord
than great wealth with turmoil.

Better, better, better, better

When you realize its better you do things different

You will end up with more of what matters

Proverbs 8:18-19

18 With me are riches and honor,
 enduring wealth and prosperity.

19 My fruit is better than fine gold;
what I yield surpasses choice silver.

Gave away cars, sponsor children,

Better, better

Margin, Week 1: What is Margin?

Published: Sept. 15, 2012, 2:55 a.m.
Duration: 41 minutes 43 seconds

Title of Message: What is Margin?

Margin: The amount available beyond what is necessary.

Margin: The difference between what you have and what you need.

(Luke 10:38-40) As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord\'s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.

(Luke 10:40) She came to him and asked, "Lord, don\'t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"

(Matthew 7:13) …For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

(Matthew 7:14) But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

(Romans 12:2) Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

(Luke 10:41) "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

When Margin Decreases:

1. Stress Increases

2. Relational Intimacy Decreases

Where Margin Begins:

(Matthew 11:28-29) Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

(Psalm 46:10) Be still, and know that I am God.

(Isaiah 58:11) The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

[SALVATION PRAYER]

(Luke 10:38-40) As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord\'s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.

(Luke 22:19) And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

(Luke 22:20) In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

(Ecclesiastes
4:9-10) (NLT) “Two people are better off than one, for they can help
each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But
someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”

ER, Part 4: Life Support

Published: May 28, 2009, 5:41 p.m.
Duration: 41 minutes 17 seconds \\xfc Reckless words.

(Proverbs 12:18) “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

\\xfc Negative attitudes.

(Romans 8:6) “The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.”

\\xfc An unbalanced life.

(Luke 21:34) “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.”

\\xfc Wrong choices.

(Proverbs 11:19) “The truly righteous man attains life, but he who pursues evil goes to his death.”

Life Support

(Matthew 20:25-26) Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you.”

5 Secrets to creating life-giving environments:

1. Give them something unexpected.

(John 3:16) “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

2. Show them special attention.

(Matthew 17:1) “After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.”

3. Express unconditional acceptance.

(Mark 10:16) “And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.”

4. Encourage them with your words.

(Matthew 16:17-18) Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

(Proverbs 18:21) (MSG) “Words kill, words give life; they\'re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

5. Put their agenda ahead of your own.

(Mark 10:45) “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

I Love My Church, Part 2: Life Transformation

Published: April 30, 2009, 12:15 p.m.
Duration: 43 minutes 31 seconds We bury it.

(Proverbs
28:13) “He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses
and renounces them finds mercy.”

We beat
ourselves up.

(Romans 7:24) “What a wretched
man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?”

(Psalm 38:4-8) “I am drowning in
the flood of my sins, they are a burden too heavy to bear. Because I have been
foolish, I’m utterly worn out and crushed, my heart is
troubled…”

We blame others.

(Genesis 3:13)
“The
serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

1 Peter 5:8 (NLT) Stay alert! Watch
out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion,
looking for someone to devour.

We build on it.

(Isaiah
43:18-19) “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I
am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making
a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”

How do I find real life transformation?

1.
Forgive
yourself.

(John 8:9-11) At this, those who heard
began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was
left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her,
“Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one,
sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus
declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

(Romans 8:1-2) “Therefore, there
is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through
Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and
death.”

2.
Forgive
others.

(Matthew 6:14-15) “For if you
forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive
you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive
your sins.”

(Matthew 18:21-22) Then Peter came to
Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he
sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you,
not seven times, but seventy-seven times.”

3.
Forgive
God.

(Jeremiah
29:11-13) “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the
LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope
and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will
listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your
heart.”

(Psalm 145:13-14, 17-20) The LORD is
faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. The LORD
upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down…The LORD
is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made. The LORD is
near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth…he hears
their cry and saves them. The LORD watches over all who love him…

(Philippians
3:13-14) “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of
it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is
ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me
heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

I Love My Church, Part 1: Thirty-Four

Published: April 23, 2009, 5:18 p.m.
Duration: 53 minutes 30 seconds \\xfc Jerusalem – My City.

(James 1:27 Msg) “Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight...”

\\xfc Judea and Samaria – My Nation.

(1 Corinthians 9:22 LB) “Whatever a person is like, I try to find common ground with him so that he will let me tell him about Christ and let Christ save him.”

\\xfc To the ends of the earth – My World.

(Mark 16:15 NCV) Jesus said to His followers, “Go everywhere in the world, and tell the Good News to everyone.”

Three Fundamental Truths

1. We are blessed to be a blessing.

(Genesis 12:2 NLT) “I will bless you…and you will be a blessing to others.”

2. When we bless others God takes care of our needs.

(Luke 18:29-30 GW) “I guarantee this. Anyone who gives up anything for the kingdom of God will certainly receive many times more in this life and will receive eternal life in the next world to come.”

(Luke 6:38 Message) “Give your life away and you’ll find your life given back. But not merely given back. Given back with bonus and blessing.”

3. The more we’re blessed by God the more He expects us to help others.

(Luke 12:48 LB) “…Much is required from those to whom much is given. For their responsibility is greater.”

What can I do?

1. Pray.

(Matthew 9:37-38) “Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”

2. Go.

(Isaiah 6:8-9) “Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’...’”

3. Give.

(Matthew 6:19-21) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

(Mark 8:35 LB) “If you insist on saving your life, you will lose it. Only those who throw away their lives for My sake and for the sake of the Good News will ever know what it means to really live.”

Miracles, Part 4: Raising Lazarus from the Dead

Published: April 9, 2009, 12:06 p.m.
Duration: 49 minutes 13 seconds \\xfc We don’t understand how God works.

(John 11:6) “Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.”

(John 11:11-13) After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.” His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.

\\xfc We get caught up in doubt.

(John 11:16) Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”

\\xfc We give up on God.

(John 11:20) “When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.”

Question: What in my life is dead or dying?

(John 11:25-26) Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

1. Settle in your heart who Jesus is.

(John 11:27) (Martha said) “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.”

(John 11:21-22) “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”

2. Stop analyzing everything.

(John 11:38-39) Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. “Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”

(Romans 4:19-21) “Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

3. Start living again.

(John 10:10) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

(John 11:43-44) Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
