Servolution, Part 2: What? Me a Priest?

Published: Nov. 6, 2009, 4:35 a.m.

b'What? Me a Priest?

(Romans 12:3-6) “Do not think of yourself
more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober
judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do
not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one
body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different
gifts…”

“A church is in danger when it becomes infatuated with preserving
human power for itself rather than releasing God-potential in its
people”.

1. Every Christian a minister.
(1 Peter
2:9) “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who
called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

2. Every task is important.
(1 Corinthians 2:14-17)
“Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. 15 If the
foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that
does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I
am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it
any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would
you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell
anything?”

(1 Corinthians 2:18-21) “But our bodies have many parts, and God
has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be
if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body.
The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t
say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”

(1 Corinthians 2:22-26) “In fact, some parts of the body that seem
weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the
parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest
care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen,
while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God
has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to
those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the
members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part
suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all
the parts are glad.”

(1 Corinthians 2:27) “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.”

(1
Peter 4:10 NLT) “God has given gifts to each of you from his great
variety of spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that God’s generosity
can flow through you.”

3. Every person is unique.
(1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Message) “God’s various gifts are handed out everywhere; but they all
originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various ministries are carried out
everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various
expressions of power are in action everywhere; but God himself is
behind it all. Each person is given something to do that shows who God
is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are
handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is
wonderful…”

4. Everyone is a “10” in some area.

(Psalm 139:13-16)
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother\'s
womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your
works are wonderful, I know that full well…All the days ordained for me
were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Spiritual Gifts:

(1 Corinthians 12:1) “Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.”

(2 Timothy 1:6) “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in you…”

Definition of a spiritual gift:
"A spiritual gift is a
special supernatural ability that God gives to each of His children, so
that together they can advance His purposes in this world."

3 Benefits of using my gifts

1. My gifts show God’s plan for my life.
(Ephesians
2:10 NLT) “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in
Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long
ago.”

2. My gifts are the key to happiness.
(John 15:8, 11)
“This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing
yourselves to be my disciples. I have told you this so that my joy may
be in you and that your joy may be complete.”

3. My gifts can make a difference.
(1 Corinthians
15:58) “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because
you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
