Tom DeLonge has teamed up with Luis Elizondo for a six-part series on the History Channel called Unidentified: Inside America\\u2019s UFO Investigation.

DeLonge and Elizondo sat down with NME to discuss the show, blink-182 and what he thought about the band dedicating \\u201cAliens Exist\\u201d to him at a recent show.

The former blink-182 member opened up on the transition from \\u201csaying obscenities\\u201d to being taken more seriously.

\\u201cI would always tell my team: \\u2018You\\u2019re dealing with a punker.\\u2019 I\\u2019ve spent decades running around saying obscenities and offending people, doing whatever the fuck I wanted to do. That\\u2019s the name of the game where I come from \\u2013 carving your own path and not caring what anybody says. Then all of a sudden everything I say matters to the credibility of something so important I can\\u2019t even really begin to digest or understand the extent to which this is going to change our world. But all the conversations my team and I have are very evolved and self-aware.

\\u201cBelieve it or not, we have very long conversations about what we\\u2019re going to talk about publicly, not because we don\\u2019t have the facts \\u2013 but because people aren\\u2019t ready for the facts.\\u201d

Luis, the Pentagon has claimed that you never actually worked there. How did that feel?

Luis: \\u201cIt\\u2019s disappointing but not surprising. There are still elements of the Government that are still not very happy with my decision. If you like an organisation you stay with it but if you love an organisation sometimes you have to leave it to make it better, to change it and fix it from the outside. That\\u2019s precisely what I did. Clearly I\\u2019ve ruffled some feathers. For the first year-and-a-half the Pentagon did indeed admit that I ran the program and that it was real. It\\u2019s only in the last month that one individual has said, \\u2018No, you know what? He really didn\\u2019t run that program.\\u2019\\u201d



Do you have documentation that proves you were there?
Luis: \\u201cThere\\u2019s plenty of documentation but my job is not to come back and say, \\u2018Aha! Gotcha!\\u2019 I don\\u2019t wanna make anybody look foolish. The bottom line is that we need the Government\\u2019s help. Given enough time I think that they will collect their misstatement again.\\u201d

Tom: \\u201cLet me jump in here with the grenade in the punchbowl. This stuff really pisses me off. I know Luis. I have seen the documentation. I know the people who took over his job in the program. This whole thing where people try to discredit him, with the enormous risk that he took\\u2026 as a civilian \\u2013 as a citizen \\u2013 it infuriates me they\\u2019re trying to cover up who he really was and what he really did.
