On Thursday the U.S. House of Representatives voted 269-152 against the\\nnet neutrality amendment, a bill sponsored by Massachusetts Democrat Ed\\nMarkey. A yes vote would have required broadband providers (Telco's,\\nCable Companies, etc) to offer the same service speeds to competitors\\nthat they provide to partners. The telcos and cable companies in\\nparticular lobbied heavily inside the beltway and it appears to have\\npaid off. This was not without some push back - according to CIO.COM at\\nthe last minute several technology and service companies sent a letter\\nto House members asking for net neutrality support. Among those\\ncompanies signing that letter were Microsoft and eBay and Kleiner,\\nPerkins, Caufield & Byers \\u2013 a large and influential venture capital\\nfirm.
