Owning Emotions

Published: June 7, 2021, 6 p.m.

Growing up I learnt only how to push my emotions away

by suppressing them,

or getting distracted,

with the struggle of getting help in learning to sit with them.

But when I recently do, it was amazing how it didn't snowballed,

It didn't linger,

It didn't pull me down further.

It just disappears, dissolves like the sizzle of your Berocca tablet in the water.

Just gone.

It was just amazing. I felt a sense of peace, plus being proud for being courageous somewhat.

This practice sinks in deep because as I slowly learn to own them, and to acknowledge the strong emotions, I felt a sense of control and no longer being controlled by them. Give it a try.
