Fan Service #02 - Adam Klink and the fabled 5 min Mile + 500# Back Squat

Published: July 13, 2020, 7:56 p.m.

The year is 2002.. the "Foundations" journal article has been written and the World is introduced to CrossFit's definition of "Fringe Athletes". Athletes who's fitness demands are so specialized as to be inconsistent with the adaptations that give maximum competency at all physical challenges.

In the Level 1 Seminar Lecture "What is CrossFit?" an example was used in a diagram of two "Fringe Athletes": The World Record Back Squat (Ray Williams 1,080#) and on the other side of the spectrum the World Record Marathon (Eliud Kipchoge, 2:01:18).  In the middle of these two incredible athletes was a mythological "CrossFit Athlete" who was deemed to have a 5 Min Mile and a 500# Back Squat.

It was a fairytale.. of what could be..

Fast forward 18 years.... that athlete has a name... Adam Klink.

Adam Klink has become the first documented CrossFit Athlete to run a 4:56 Mile and record a 500# Back Squat in the same day.

Bill Grundler and Chase Ingraham sit down with Adam to talk about this monumental accomplishment and beg the question... what's next for CrossFit Athletes? What is a great benchmark for Female Athletes? What is the gymnastics equivalent for this duo?

All that and more on this episode of Get With The Programming.
