How Are You\\u2026Really?

How many times has someone asked you \\u201chow are you?\\u201d and you mindlessly say \\u201cI\\u2019m fine, thanks.\\u201d

\\n

When you are not.

\\n

When I say, you are not, I don\\u2019t mean that you just had someone you love die, or you just lost your home, or your job, or you just found our your beloved was cheating on you\\u2026I mean \\u201cyou are not,\\u201d because you don\\u2019t actually know anymore.

\\n

\\u201cI\\u2019m fine, thanks\\u201d is something we say countless times and most of those times, we don\\u2019t even think about it.

\\n

Our mouths answer before we even truly think about what we are saying.

\\n

It really isn\\u2019t that your life sucks.

\\n

In fact it\\u2019s probably a nice life.

\\n

There are \\u2018things\\u2019 that aren\\u2019t perhaps what you wish they were\\u2026but hey, you have tons of things that other people don\\u2019t\\u2026a place to live, friends, a decent partner\\u2026blah blah blah.

\\n

At least that\\u2019s what you tell yourself. BUT there is something in your belly, a slight little feeling, that your life isn\\u2019t where it\\u2019s meant to be.

\\n

It\\u2019s that feeling that you only feel when everything around you gets quiet.

\\n

When the world stops in between each breath.

\\n

When you notice the quiet in between each breath.

\\n

Which doesn\\u2019t happen too often ;)

\\n

I bring this up because this yoga class episode was inspired by an amazing project by Adam Baker called \\u201cI\\u2019m Fine, Thanks.\\u201d It\\u2019s a VERY important life changing project that all of you should be aware of and consider donating to.

Yes.

If I would not have made the choices that I made in the fall of 2007 I would in no way be as alive as I am right now.

\\n

I feel it in my bones that my health would have suffered greatly.

\\n

I am 100% certain that I would not be a mother.

\\n

I didn\\u2019t have a horrible life, in fact from the outside it looked just peachy. I looked just peachy. I sounded just peachy.

\\n

But in between the breaths, I was not.

\\n

The following class is an opportunity to practice stepping deeper into your heart, and ask yourself \\u201chow are you?\\u201d

\\n

And answer yourself truly, in the privacy of your own mat, in your own practice.

\\n

The class itself is not particularly challenging in terms of the poses, but it is slow deliberate and I don\\u2019t teach from the ground up. You\\u2019ll get the most of the yoga class if you already have a practice, simply because you get an opportunity to forget the \\u2018poses\\u2019 and make it more about a moving meditation.
