Dr Anita Heiss "Plotting Along"

Published: May 25, 2019, 6:21 a.m.

Dr Anita Heiss is a proud Wiradjuri woman, author, activist and academic. She is one of the few female Indigenous authors cutting across genres with her stories, accessing the mass commercial market with her commercial and historical fiction novels, the literary and academic market with her memoir and non-fiction novels as well as carving out a corner of her very own in kids publishing. No matter which way you look at it Dr Anita Heiss is nailing it. In this interview Anita chats with Kel about how plotting definitely works for her, "method writing" her books and where those vibrant characters come from. She also contemplates the question of why there aren't more Aboriginal women writing in the commercial women's fiction and romance genres and how that might be changed. Rheems of good advice in here for ALL writers.
