I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2163 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of Wisdom, to seek out discerment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.   Today we begin with a new wisdom segment called Wisdom Nuggets which will be published on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We will continue to post our extended series of messages I delivered at Putnam Congregational Church over the past couple of years on Tuesday and Thursday.   Today’s Wisdom Nugget is taken from the Book of Proverbs 1:1-7. I will read the passage first, and then we will dive in on the content. Let’s begin.

  • The Purpose of Proverbs

1 These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel. 2 Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. 3 Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. 4 These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young. 5 Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance 6 by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles. 7 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. It doesn’t matter where you are on your terk of life; Proverbs has something to offer you. The beauty of these proverbs lies in their profound simplicity. They have the power to transform the simple into the wise and the wise into the wiser. But to gain this wisdom, one must be willing to listen and receive guidance. The crux of these verses lies in verse 7, which is a cornerstone of the entire book: “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” In other words,
