A Vigorous Walk – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1862 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Paul Dudley White, and it is: A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.
A Vigorous Walk

When you are unhappy or a bit depressed, I know that you may not feel like getting out and walking vigorously, but it is so much better for you than additional medicine or talking through your feelings with a therapist. It is also much less expensive. I am not saying that medication and therapist are not required at times, but have you tried vigorously walking daily as an alternative? If not, it is certainly worth trying. According to the Mayo Clinic, physical activity doesn’t need to be complicated. Something as simple as a brisk daily walk can help you live a healthier life.

For example, regular brisk walking can help you:

Maintain a healthy weight and lose body fat

Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer, and type 2 diabetes

Improve cardiovascular fitness

Strengthen your bones and muscles

Improve muscle endurance

Increase energy levels

Improve your mood, cognition, memory, and sleep

Improve your balance and coordination

Strengthen immune system

Reduce stress and tension

The faster, farther, and more frequently you walk, the greater the benefits. For example, you may start out as an average walker, and then work your way up to walking faster and walking a mile in a shorter amount of time than an average walker, similar to power walkers. This can be a great way to get aerobic activity, improve your heart health and increase your endurance while burning calories.

You can also alternate periods of brisk walking with leisurely walking. This type of interval training has many benefits, such as improving cardiovascular fitness and burning more calories than regular walking. And interval training can be done in less time than regular walking.

I cannot speak or decide for others, nor would I presume to do so, but I can speak for myself. At 65, I walk or jog at least five days a week. I am at or near my ideal weight and overall excellent health. I am told that I look considerably younger than my age and have strong bones and muscles. This would not be true if I did not get proper exercise, sufficient sleep, and eat healthy, balanced meals.

Since our bodies are considered God’s temple on earth and imagers of Him, we certainly should do all that we can to maintain a fit dwelling place for God’s spirit.

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your...
