Knowing your ancestry is a way to understand your legacy. Author, educator and researcher, Dr. Marion T. Lane reflects on her genealogy journey with Yvette. Dr. Lane's father, 101 at the time of this podcast, often told his daughter that her ancestors served with distinction in the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. However, it became real for her when she viewed the PBS Special \\u201cAfrican American Lives\\u201d in February 2006 which featured her family, the Brown Family of Charles City County, Virginia, as a free Black family dating back to colonial times. Her quest began and she is now one of the few African American members of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. As a retired educator, she realized the importance of this information for African American children and has written 2 children's books: Patriots of African Descent in the Revolutionary War, Part 1 and More Than One Ancestry, Part 2. She has 2 more books to be released in the next year.
