The first chapter of Colossians includes a prayer for the church (9-12) and a hymn (doxology) about the supremacy of Jesus (15-20). It is powerful to note that the prayer parallels the main points of the hymn, and is essentially a request to experience the fullness of life that can be found in the Supreme Jesus. In other words, the supremacy of Jesus isn’t just something we can know about, it is something that we can participate in.
