After moving to Maine she taught courses on women’s aging at the University of Maine and the University of Southern Maine. Her book Learning to be Old: gender, culture and aging was named one of the best books on human rights in 2004 by the Myers Center for Human Rights in Boston. Cruikshank also edited an anthology of literary works on aging titled Fierce with Reality. She lives in Corea.
