Taking Sides (John 18:1-27)

b"Being a disciple of Jesus is tough - the gate is narrow and we don't always understand the direction of the path on which we are walking. There are times in all of our lives when we take sides in our stance with Jesus. A lot of the time, the side we take has more to do with our circumstances than our relationship with Jesus. In this section of Scripture, we see what looks to be a situation out of control, and people were taking sides. The reality was, however, everything was according to plan - God's plan. What we will discuss and see clearly is that, sometimes, we have to trust God's promises over His providences. It is our nature, at times, to try and become stumbling blocks to what God is doing - only to look back and see how what God put into motion was meant for our ultimate good. As we approach Easter, our thoughts are hopefully turning to the Cross and the implications the Cross has in our lives. These next sections of John are exciting as we see the detail of what Jesus went through as He fulfilled the plan of redemption. As I preach through this first section of John 19, we will take a look beneath the narrative. We will look at the faces in the crowd and glance upon what we can visibly see taking place - as well as what we cannot see, spiritually. Looking forward to Sunday, Nick"
