In 1989, hundreds of thousands of Chinese protestors packed Tiananmen Square to demand reforms in their countries. In reaction, the government declared martial law and mobilized as many as 300,000 troops in Beijing. There is a picture of a lone man squaring off against a row of tanks. It is one of the most famous photos from this massacre. As I looked at this picture, I asked: "What would drive a man to risk his life like this?" His desire for reform trumped his own fear for his life. In Acts 5, a similar thing took place. Peter and the apostles stand before the ruling counsel, and they boldly proclaim, "We must obey God rather than men!" What would possess someone to behave so flippantly with his own life? Why would the apostles say this? This Sunday, we dove into Acts 5 and uncover the motivations behind the Apostles' actions. And we saw how the Kingship of Jesus changes the motivation for everything we do!
