Secret Disciple (John 19:38-52)

b'My name is Pastor Dave; I am coming out of the closet. The truth is, "I watch American Idol." As a guy, that can be an embarrassing thing to admit. And, most weeks, I actually enjoy watching the show. It started as something I did with my girls. It seemed that American Idol was a show we could watch as a family. But as I got to know the contestants, and the judges, I started to become emotionally invested in what happens to them each week. Who is going home this week? (On a side note, I was personally upset that America sent Pia home last week. That is a travesty!) As a guy, the fact that I enjoy American Idol isn\'t necessarily something I freely share with "the guys." It brings my masculinity into question. But, the truth is, I\'m tired of hiding it. I enjoy American Idol. There. I said it. It is no longer a secret. In John 19:38-42, the apostle John recounts the details of Jesus\' burial. He tells us that Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body. And, almost as a parenthetical remark, John notes that Joesph was "a disciple of Jesus, but secretly..." (verse 38). "Secretly?" Did I read that right? Is there such a thing as a secret disciple? That\'s the burning question that I intend to answer on Sunday. Now, this Sunday is officially Palm Sunday. This also represents the 6th Birthday of Waukee Community Church. This text is a great reminder of who we are, and what we want to accomplish as the body of Christ. I\'ll see you on Sunday so we can all wish each other a Happy Birthday! In Christ, P. Dave'
