Preconceptions

b"At 24 years of age, I started my first full time ministry position. Because I was only 6 years older than some of my students, I was concerned about my first impression with parents. I was concerned that they'd see me as just another kid (and not be willing to trust me with the responsibilities of a Student Ministries Pastorate). Even at 24, I already had some gray hair. Even still, I needed to do something to help bolster my apparent maturity so that people's preconceptions about me would be proved wrong. I decided to wear a suit. EVERY SINGLE SUNDAY. Alberta Belkey would have been so proud of me! I have no idea if it worked. But, I got to be a part of some amazing ministry opportunities in those days! Preconceptions are interesting things. We all have them, but we're not always aware of it. In Acts 10-11, God tackles the issues of preconceptions in the early church. And in His grace-filled, direct way, He points the church to see people the way God sees people. This Sunday, we dove into a big chunk of text and God opened our eyes to see His perspective!"
