Like or Love (John 13:31-35)

I love the musical "The Sound of Music." I realize that some of you men will never again look at me with a straight face. Still, I confess, there is something about the story of reconciliation between a father and his children. I'll never forget, at the beginning of the movie, when Captain Von Trapp introduced his children to Faulein Maria. He blew the whistle and his children came marching down the stairs - ready to receive their next orders. By the end of the movie, Captain Von Trapp no longer blew his whistle. He commanded the children with love. Jesus knew something about giving commands. In John 13:34, Jesus gave a new command. Normally, you'd expect a commander to say: "Charge the hill!" Or, "Conquer the enemy!" But Jesus' new command is three simple words: "Love one another." Who knew that this command could be so difficult? On Sunday, I'm excited to press forward into Book II of the Gospel of John. And, I'm excited to see how you and I can fulfill our marching orders of loving each other. As always, I can't wait to see you on Sunday! P.Dave
