Discouragement & Sovereignty (John 6:60-71)

b'As Frank lay in bed, he glanced over at his alarm clock. It was Thursday morning and the clock read, "7:25am." Having hit snooze for the fifth time, he knew that if he got out of bed right now, he could still race through a quick shower and get to work on time. But the thought of facing another day drove Frank back under the covers. So far, his week had been filled with discouragements -- problems with people at work, problems with his family, problems with his neighbors, and even problems with his wife. It seemed as if everyone in his life was against him. And the thought of facing it all again was more than he could bear. He asked, "where\'s the hope when you feel all alone?" In John 6, Jesus had every reason to crawl back in bed. He had just spent two exhausting days in ministry. All of this culminated in John 6:66 which reads, "From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him." Jesus poured out his life and his followers said, "No thanks. We\'re out of here!" If I were Jesus, I\'d be discouraged. But Jesus didn\'t get discouraged. He took hope in the twelve disciples that remained. Jesus understood that in His most discouraging times, something else was going on. Something that gave Him hope! This Sunday we\'re going to take a look at how the sovereignty of God gives us hope--even in the most discouraging of times. I know some of you can relate to Frank, and you really need to hear this message. That\'s why I can\'t wait to see you and encourage you this Sunday! ~ P.Dave'
