HEROES Act DOA in Senate: Compromise Coming?

Published: May 28, 2020, 10 a.m.

In this week’s WashingtonWise Investor, Mike delves into the HEROES Act, the $3 trillion, “phase four” package of emergency spending proposals passed by the House of Representatives. Republicans in the Senate want a smaller package and favor including programs that protect businesses from litigation. With senators on both sides voicing the need for getting more relief soon, watch for some serious compromises to be struck in order to get the next round out the door.

Mike also looks at the push to delist Chinese companies from American stock exchanges over lack of transparency, considers what the new rules for voting by proxy in the House will mean, highlights efforts to simplify the small-business loan program, and discusses the likelihood of holding political conventions at the end of summer. He closes out with insights on the different approaches the New Your Stock Exchange and the SEC are employing to keep the markets operating during the coronavirus crisis.
