Ep. 031 - Shooter (2007)

In any other scenario a movie like Shooter could have gone all sorts of wrong, but in Antoine Fuqua's deft hands it ends up being an homage to the classic '70s action-thrillers that many directors to this day pull inspiration from. Fuqua proves his love for directors like Sergio Leone and Kurosawa in this (Paco-term) "dumb-guy movie" way that surprises and delights our hosts (and hopefully our listeners) to no end. We also can't seem to get away from Mark Wahlberg, so we might as well just take it on the chin and enjoy the inevitability that Marky Mark is going to be the star in some of our favorite movies whether we expect it or not.

Also, Levon Helm from The Band...LEVON FUCKING HELM...from...THE BAND is in this movie!! Like...and he's GOOD. What the....that's....that's just got to be noted. The HELMs Deep himself. The We Shall Be uh LEVON in all his glory. Any fans of The Band out there? The Weight? Up On Cripple Creek? Music from the Big Pink?? Cahoots?? Moondog Matinee...anyone?? Sorry...just gotta get that out. Like......so random, and so awesome at the same time.
