2017 Orthodox Education Day

b'St. Vladimir\\u2019s Orthodox Theological Seminary held its annual open house, Orthodox Education Day, Saturday, October 7, 2017. This year\\u2019s timely theme was \\u201cModern Martyrs: Christians of the Middle East and North Africa.\\u201d In his keynote address titled, \\u201cDying, and Behold, We Live: Martyrdom in the New Testament,\\u201d biblical scholar the Reverend Dr. George Parsenios, Associate Professor of New Testament, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Sessional Professor of New Testament at St. Vladimir\\u2019s, focused on the writings of St. Paul and the Gospel of Saint John, texts that indicate how suffering is connected to assimilation to Christ and being \\u201cin Christ.\\u201d Father George emphasized how the actions of both ancient and modern martyrs continue to teach us that \\u201cthe meaning of life is death,\\u201d and \\u201cthat if you want to live the Resurrection, the only path is to carry the Cross.\\u201d'
