TNL29 - Christmas is Upon us and we all like to indulge, What about it, treating ourselves isn’t a bad thing, in fact treating ourselves occasionally will allow us to suppress the constant thoughts and feelings for food. As Geoff says in his close out, Its not about Thanks giving to January, its about January to Thanks giving that really make the difference.

The New Year for many means a new start. We all constantly strive to be better, and often by the second week of february we have forgotten what those goals are, Loose 10 lbs, give up an addiction, save money, to name but a few. But, if we take small steps, making SMART goals, we might just make it. SMART. Specific, Measurable, Achievable Realistic, and Time related. When it comes to setting goals, don’t be afraid to be writing them down, if when you look at it, your goals are a little unrealistic, or you cant achieve your time that you set, We can take Geoff’s case as an example, his time to compete for the Boston Marathon. 3:15 is his time to beat, and his current PR is around 22 mins outside that. Knocking that time off of a PR is a massive feat, in a short space of time, but what he can do is half the time to 11 minuets and aim for that over the year. Sure it might mean he cannot get to the 2015 Boston marathon but by setting a new PR time of 11 minuets quicker over the next 12 months is Specific, Measurable, Achievable and Time Related. by aiming for 11 and not 22 he is not setting himself up to fail.

Liam is especialy good at setting unrealistic goals, The Parish walk proved that. the 85 miles was a massive ask, and with only 19 weeks of training proved to be to much. This time around Liam is aiming for a half marathon, 13.1 miles to be exact. He already runs 3 miles 2-3 times a week, so increasing to 13 won’t be to hard over the next 30 odd weeks.

When you are mapping out your goals, take small steps, "Inch by inch, play by play" to quote Al Pacino in the film any given Sunday, No point for aiming for the end zone 90 yards away while your standing on your own ten yard line.

You have to work at it. Moving up the field, one play at a time. Keep hitting the targets, gaining 10-15 even 20 yards at a time, and once in a while if you get pushed back, so what. Get up. Brush yourself off, get your head down and go again. You will, and you CAN make the end zone, and scoring that GOAL.

Moving on to this weeks show, we indeed talk about our own goals and how we plan on getting through Christmas.
