b'A few days ago, Keera had been told of the beautiful Golden City where there were no tears. Keera had left her family and life to seek it out. But, when she had arrived, she had been astounded to find it was at the top of a huge, never-ending cliff. Keera could just see a bit of light at the top. Finally, after a long hesitation, she began to climb the Mountain of Sin.
“Cold.” “Exhausted.” “Broken.” “Alone.” Keera was pelted with words of desperation as she crawled up the sharp, piercing rocks. \\xe2€œCan’t…make it!\\xe2€\\x9d her aching body told her. Her heart cried out in desperation as she fell to the ground. Keera began to weep.
Then, through her tears, she saw two bare, bleeding feet stop before her. She looked up and saw the feet belonged to the kindest, gentlest man she had ever seen. \\xe2€œHello,\\xe2€\\x9d he said in a wonderful voice. \\xe2€œHow long have you been wandering here?\\xe2€\\x9d
\\xe2€œI’ve lost track,\\xe2€\\x9d Keera said, her voice cracking and dry. \\xe2€œBut I thought I was alone. Have you wandered here until you can’t feel anything but pain and cold too?\\xe2€\\x9d
\\xe2€œYou might say that,\\xe2€\\x9d he answered. \\xe2€œThere is only one way to the City, but you would need to trust me.\\xe2€\\x9d Without hesitation, Keera said, \\xe2€œI already do.\\xe2€\\x9d
Then Keera felt the man’s arms wrap around her as he lifted her and began to walk up the trail. She heard him gritting his teeth at her weight and felt him wince as each stone pierced his feet. But he kept going. After what seemed like hours to Keera, he set her down and said, \\xe2€œWe are at the top.\\xe2€\\x9d
In astonishment Keera, asked, \\xe2€œWhy could you find a path and I could not?\\xe2€\\x9d
\\xe2€œBecause I am the only way to get to the top. There is no other way, Keera,\\xe2€\\x9d he said. Surprised again, Keera asked, \\xe2€œHow do you know my name?\\xe2€\\x9d
He answered, \\xe2€œI know everyone’s name. My name is Emmanuel. Now, go and enter the kingdom.\\xe2€\\x9d With that, he turned and headed back down the mountain. Keera watched for a moment, then turned and raced toward the Golden City. • Natalie Crowe
• Read Romans 3:23 and 6:23.
