Bush administrations, and later as Minority Staff Director of the Senate Intelligence Committee, he was heavily responsible for reviewing agencies and budgets involved in top-secret \u201cblack programs\u201d related to things such as special operations and nuclear weapons. Mellon is now an integral part of the investigative team featured on HISTORY's \u201cUnidentified: Inside America\u2019s UFO Investigation.\u201d We talked to him about what\u2019s happening\u2014and what he thinks should be done.

It was extraordinary that when the [Nimitz] pilots landed, that they were ridiculed. There was no interest expressed on the part of the intelligence personnel on board, in terms of documenting this, running this up the chain. It was the inverse of what you would normally expect. We spent $50 billion a year and have an intelligence apparatus, in large part to avert strategic surprise. And here we have a case where incredible technology is manifesting itself, intelligently controlled vehicles operating in and around the carrier battle group\u2014and the system doesn't react. It shuts down. It tries to suppress the information.

e government is \u201cignoring UFO sightings\u201d because \u201cnobody wants to be \u2018the alien guy\u2019 in the national security bureaucracy,\u201d a former Pentagon official said.
Christopher Mellon, a former deputy assistant security of defense for the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations, claims that the government needs to thoroughly investigate nationwide reports of flying unidentified objects, given the sheer quantity in recent years.
In a Washington Post op-ed, Mellon, who now works at The Stars Academy of Arts and Science (TTSA), says some U.S. pilots have encountered a UFO and several have even caught footage of the occurrence, but not enough has been done about it. "We have no idea what\u2019s behind these weird incidents because we\u2019re not investigating," he wrote.
