Disparities in the mortality rates in women of color vs Caucasian women are staggering. In fact, the CDC Newsroom reports that Black, American Indian, and Alaska Native (AI/AN) women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. In this week's episode Kisa and Renee talk with Dr. Ron Wright. He is one of three physician/owners of WomanCare, LLC, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. There he practices full scope women’s health care. Dr. Wright is going to speak into why these disparities are so prevalent regardless of socioeconomic status, and how progress can be made in the medical areas to ward against improper treatment of people of color. In our Two-Minute Story, we honor Helen Octavia Dickens. She was the was the first African American board certified OB/GYN in 1945.
