Since Star Trek: Discovery introduced the first same-sex couple in the characters of Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets and Dr. Hugh Culber in 2017, LGBTQ fans of Star Trek finally got a couple they cared about and finally got accepted for who they were. But the discussions of LGBTQ-friendly storylines in Star Trek go far back as 1987, during the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. In this episode of Twin Cities Trekkies that celebrates Pride Month, hosts Wes Huntington and MacKenzie Flickinger talk about same-sex relationships, chemistry and never-produced ideas revolving about LGBTQIA representation in the Star Trek franchise.
