You may have seen media articles recently about Melissa Lucio \\u2013 the first ever Hispanic woman to be sentenced to death in Texas.\\xa0 Melissa was due to be executed in April 2022 and she was granted a stay of execution just days before her scheduled death.

Melissa is a mother of 14 children.\\xa0 She was convicted of murdering her 2 year-old daughter Mariah in 2007.\\xa0 Mariah was found unresponsive after an alleged fall down stairs.\\xa0 An autopsy was conducted and at the time, it was determined that Mariah died from blunt force trauma.\\xa0 She also had bruising of the kidneys, lungs and spinal cord.\\xa0

When Melissa was taken in for questioning, she was interrogated for hours, without proper legal representation.\\xa0 She was not offered food or water.\\xa0 She denied over 100 times that she caused Mariah\\u2019s death.\\xa0 Eventually, Melissa broke down and \\u2018confessed\\u2019 to Mariah\\u2019s murder.\\xa0 \\u201cI don\\u2019t know what you want me to say,\\u201d she told authorities. \\u201cI\\u2019m responsible for it \\u2026 I guess I did it.\\u201d\\n

Over the years, Melissa\\u2019s team have made many appeals in her case.\\xa0 She also has high-profile supporters such as the Innocence Project and Kim Kardashian. \\xa0

Melissa\\u2019s case will now be re-examined to determine if she is eligible for a new trial. \\xa0
