Since the founding of the United States there has actually been many times that have tried the fortitude and resilience of it\'s men\\u2019s souls, but rarely has the convergence of several of these events occurred at one time. But it did in Gaffney, South Carolina in 1968. Domestically the civil rights movement was strong in South Carolina. It had to be. The lawmakers of the time were doing everything they could to resist desegregation. Abroad, American men and boys fought a war that they would never win. In fact, 1968 would be the deadliest year of Vietnam, when just under 17,000 American lives were lost. So imagine, a war raged on, both at home and across the world for the people of South Carolina- the fear and hate and anger must have been as thick around them as the humidity in the summer. But then, in February of 1968, the people of Gaffney, South Carolina found out they had a serial killer on their hands.\\xa0
