Judaism Vs. Hellenism - The 2300 Year Old Battle
Some 2300 years ago a Jewish group of rebels led by the Maccabees rose up against the Syrian Greek empire. They fought for Judaism against the enforcement of Hellenist culture in the land of Israel. We celebrate their victory every year on Chanukah.
