Prophets and Revelation an Interview w/ Spencer Marsh

Today we are joined by Spencer Marsh. Spencer is a Philosophy Major at BYU and has done a lot of volunteer work with FAIR Mormon. For his efforts in defending the faith in 2019 he was awarded FAIR Mormon's "John Taylor Defender of the Faith Award."

Throughout various episodes, we've discussed a lot about how in the church we don't believe in the infallibility of our Prophets. With the hope that we've been able to deconstruct that incorrect expectation, I thought it would be helpful to have a discussion on how despite our Prophets' being fallible they are still reliable. Spencer has spent a lot of time studying this topic and has a lot of great thoughts. In the episode he gives three reasons why people will often disagree with the prophets: 1) What the prophet teaches contradicts science, 2) What the prophet teaches contradicts their personal moral code or theory, and 3) People have incorrect expectations for how revelation changes and develops over time. He talks about each of these three reasons.
