S1E25 Burning it All Down

Lewis Raven-Wallace is a journalist who hosts the podcast, “The View from Somewhere” which interrogates the notion of objectivity and examines how it has kept people of color, queer folks, and trans people from having their experiences legitimated. Lewis is also a co-founder of Press On, a southern journalist collective that supports liberation and movement journalism, and we chatted about the changes that journalism needs to undertake to become a truly progressive and equitable institution. For Lewis, this might mean burning media down—but in like a “fuck you, this is the end of everything” kind of way. Instead, he poses the idea of burning down journalism as we know it so that we can create a journalism as we—and by “we,” Lewis means marginalized people and their allies—would like to see it.
