Brant Johnson grew up in a Republican Evangelical Christian family and recalls "doing shifts" at a North Carolina phone bank for the Republican Party when he was just 10 years-old. Brant talks about his subsequent experiences pivoting his political and religious beliefs to become the Democratic Catholic "black sheep" of his family. He shares what it's like having such divergent political views from his family, especially in the wake of the 2020 election and amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite their divergent beliefs, there is no doubt that Brant loves his family--he just doesn't quite know what to do about the looming red, Republican elephant in the room.
