b"Rocky II picks up right where the first Rocky left off. Anything that is lost in the calculated money making decision to create a franchise based on this beloved underdog is made up for by the competent direction and storytelling of Stallone. The stakes are interestingly raised because in the first film Rocky and it was about his hunger to prove himself. This film hits us with an economic reality where Rocky has a taste of the money he could be making and in true American underdog fashion wants to transcend his class. What ultimately makes the sequelization of this series work is Stallone's dedication to and intimate understanding of this iconic character. Interesting movie.
