What Feminism Means to me: Building Each Other up

Hey there! Welcome to the twentieth episode of Théa’s Tea, where I begin with my tea talk, weekly update and current favourites! Today I dive into feminism, and how I live it on a day to day basis. To start, I mention my EF speech, which relates to this topic, mention why I feel the need to cover feminism, introduce my message for today: lifting other girls up, clarify that what I share can be applied to everybody, but with a focus on gender equality, and state that I hope this conversation is as if I were your big sister! Then, I share my opinion on girls hating on girls; I highlight negative tendencies we tend to display, emphasise that as we face inequality, we must build a strong front and remind you that positive deeds create a ripple effect. Afterward, I discuss the quote “a girl who is doing the same thing as you is not your competition, she’s your sister”; where I explain how this transformed me, the importance in my role models inspiring me to adopt this attitude, explain my journey and growth and reiterate that this can be applied to all genders. Also, I share the message that we shouldn’t be afraid to reach out; showing that I used to be very shy, and how I was able to grow from that to where I am today and remind you not to hesitate! To wrap up, I reiterate a few main points from the episode. I need to be better informed,” but, the truth is, I will never know absolutely everything, and I think the best place is just to start.” 19:51 = “It’s no secret that we are at disadvantage towards men, so the minimum we can do is stick together” 20:55 = “We really have to realise that we need to stick together, we need to stand together, we need to be there for each other, because in a world where so many people are against us, we need to be the ones picking ourselves up” 22:29 = “This is a really beautiful thing, because if you treat other girls well, it will ripple” 24:36 = “We need to strengthen our relationships, and become fierce women that support one another and are here to see each other grow, instead of beating each other up” 27:09 = “No big organisation that we know today came from selfishness, it came from people wanting to share, wanting to produce, and wanting to let other people help them!” 27:29 = “Once you stop seeing other girls as your competition, but as your sisters instead, that will really just open all these other possibilities” 29:29 = “It’s really simple: if you’re doing something that you know is good, then, you should want more of it” 32:06 = “We’re in the same boat together, and we shouldn’t be trying to knock each other off the boat, we should be finding ways to make the boat more profitable, to make it sustainable for the both of us” 33:25 = “If I know that I’m working for a positive cause, it’s more valuable to have more dedicated people than just one person who’s trying to do it all” 34:39 = “Putting myself in a vulnerable position to get close to somebody is such a brave thing” Thanks for tuning in, have a beautiful week!
