TWW 048: Morality of Dark Tourism; Travel to Places like Auschwitz & Pearl Harbour

Published: April 16, 2015, 10 a.m.

Dark tourism is tourism to the sites of death or atrocities. Places like the concentration camps in Europe, Pearl Harbour, the 9/11 memorial, London Dungeons. If you've been traveling for long enough you've probably been to a few places like these. How did they make you feel? Sad, angry, maybe confused at how these events could happen? Did you feel uncomfortable being there seeing people taking photos?
On this episode of The World Wanderer's Podcast Amanda and Ryan tackle the topic of dark tourism. Why do these sites facinate people? Is it good that we memorialize these sites and turn them into revenue generating attractions? What motivates us to travel to these places?
All of that and more on this episode.
