First Impressions of Mexico City

Published: Oct. 19, 2017, 11 a.m.

Estamos en Mexico City! Although we weren't quite sure to expect on arriving, our first few days have been great. From our smooth arrival at the airport, our AirBnb exceeding our expectations, indulging in fantastic food, and a great new coworking space, we have really been enjoying ourselves. We've had a few (pleasant) surprises, like noticing how organized the traffic seems in comparison to Asia, and finding a great grocery store that is helping to make the city feel like home. We're trying not to get too comfortable in our space though, and are looking forward to challenging ourselves by exploring the diverse neighbourhoods of the city and primarily interacting with locals in Spanish (however awkward stumbling through conversations in another language may be!) Although there are a lot of things we are looking forward to experiencing, the reality of the recent earthquake is unavoidable, and can literally become apparent as you walk down the street. While most of the city is recovering or back to normal, we sometimes come across building rubble or flowers which reinforces the intensity of the event and the lives lost. Although we were a little nervous about the potential for another earthquake, we have been able to relax after talking to locals and getting used to our environment. We're looking forward to sharing our adventures in this great city going forward as we get settled in. Enjoy!
