The Nine Billion Names of God

Published: Oct. 21, 2020, 7 a.m.

We pay homage this week to one of the greatest science fiction writers of all time, Arthur C. Clarke, with his Tale "The Nine Billion Names of God."  Clarke is probably best known for his novel "2001: A Space Odyssey" and other works of hard sci-fi, but this short work is arguably more about metaphysical considerations. It won the retrospective Hugo Award for Best Short Story for 1954, one of five Clarke would collect in his lifetime.
