theTVaholic Previews FX’s The Bastard Executioner

Published: Sept. 9, 2015, 4:45 a.m.

In this episode we preview FX’s new drama The Bastard Executioner. It stars Lee Jones in the title role, Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy, Flora Spencer Longhurst, Sam Spruell (The Last Ship) and Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy). Sutter is also the creator, executive producer, director and writer. Also of note, Matthew Rhys (The Americans) as a recurring role.
It’s about a guy that has lost everything and is on a quest for revenge along with a group of other fellows, but ends up having to take on the persona of an executioner. This may or may not be part of a grand plan for his life, as he and others have visions of what they are supposed to do. But, if he is found out, it will be the end of him and his friends.
The Bastard Executioner feels very much like Sons of Anarchy, as it covers many of the same themes, just in a completely different setting and time. It’s horses and swords instead of motorcycles and guns.
