Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead: Is This Bruce Campbell Horror Comedy Groovy?

Published: Oct. 25, 2015, 6:52 a.m.

On this episode we preview Starz’s new horror comedy Ash vs Evil Dead. It stars Bruce Campbell (Burn Notice, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.), Jill Marie Jones (Girlfriends), Ray Santiago (Bad Judge), Dana DeLorenzo (Impress Me) and Lucy Lawless (Spartacus, Xena: Warrior Princess).
Ash vs Evil Dead picks up some 30 years after the events of The Evil Dead Trilogy with Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent those years avoiding responsibility, growing up and the terrors of the “Evil Dead.” When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is once again forced to face his demons, both personal and literal. Destiny seems to have no plans to release this unlikely hero.
Having not seen any of the original trilogy of movies, but really liking Bruce Campbell, I went into this not nearly as excited as fans of the series are. But, I quite enjoyed this humorous and gruesomely goofy horror comedy. Look forward to checking out the rest of it and going back and checking out The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. Which may be really easy as Starz is airing all three of them on Friday, October 30th the night before Ash vs Evil Dead premieres on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31st following Da Vinci’s Demons.
