Each person would love to have the perfect circumstances when they are attempting to achieve their goals. So what would be the perfect scenario for you? What would be the perfect age? What would be the perfect amount to have in your bank account? By now you are starting to see a pattern...well at least I hope you are seeing the pattern.

There is no perfect ____________ (Time, age, financial support) that will trump the way that adversity can motivate you. It has been the way that people have become great leaders. Think about the lessons and opportunities that came during moments when you things felt like they weren't going to get better. The "big leap" story or the "overcome"story is valued because people can relate to the tough times and look at th egood times as motivation.

Robert became a rockstar in his sixties after deciding to take a leap and go for his dreams. In this episode he shared what it looked like for him and how the steps he took can mirror the steps necessary for success by anyone. Even though he has been able to achieve success in certain areas, the pandemic shifted things for him and his band.

One thing that stood out the most was that his desire to put out music was because he felt that music could be his way of helping others through the pandemic. He was leading with service through song.

Meet Robert:

Robert Miller is the creative force behind Project Grand Slam, as the leader, bassist, and composer for the band.

Says Robert: “In 2015 I completely reorganized the band and our music. Since then it’s been a whirlwind.”

PGS plays a unique fusion of Rock and Jazz with a twist of Latin. Plus Robert’s reimagining of iconic ‘60s hits.

In just the past 5 years PGS has released 10 highly acclaimed albums including a Billboard #1, had over 4 million video views, a million Spotify streams, over 50,000 Facebook fans, played festivals and concerts in the U.S. and abroad, and opened for such artists as Edgar Winter, Blues Traveler, Boney James, Mindi Abair, and Scott Weiland, as well as an after-show for YES. Plus PGS has had tens of thousands of Likes, Shares, and Comments on social media.

PGS today consists of Robert supported by a group of extremely talented, mainly foreign-born musicians from places like Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

Along with this reconfiguration, Robert has transformed the band’s music, consisting mainly of original vocal songs but also some instrumentals.

This transformation started on 2015’s Made In New York album which included Robert’s reimagined version of Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire” plus his “New York City Groove”. Both songs became staples in the band’s live performances and “Fire” remains the band’s concert closer to this day.

In each succeeding year, PGS has recorded at least one new album. Robert’s songs channel his love for rock music, jazz fusion, and ‘60s British Invasion hits. With this eclectic mix, Robert has blazed a completely original path for PGS.

The appeal of the band has been widespread, from Millennials to Baby Boomers, from rock to jazz, from domestic to international.

2020 has been an extremely difficult year for everyone. PGS had festival appearances and a European tour canceled. But Robert focused the band on what could be achieved during the pandemic.

Fortunately, PGS had just finished recording its newest album, East Side Sessions, before the world closed down. Robert then oriented the band during the lockdown to produce videos of four songs from the album. All were successful, receiving several hundred thousand views.

He also started writing songs over the summer that expressed his feelings about and during the pandemic. Despite all the pain everyone was experiencing, he felt that love and music will help get us through the pandemic. With the participation of his bandmates, he recorded 10 new songs remotely, 9 of which are vocals that he decided to sing himself because they are all so personal. The resulting album, Summer Of Love (2020), Robert’s debut solo record, has received extraordinary reviews and was released in January 2021.
