Episode 6: "KOD – Knowledge Over Deception"

Published: May 14, 2018, 6:16 p.m.

Knowledge is information, deception is the act of deceiving. Are teachers intentionally failing to effectively teach our boys, or is the real problem their lack of preparation, education, and training for the classroom?

Is the school system working in the best interest of our children? Alarming statistics suggest the school is merely a pipeline to the prison system for black boys in particular.

Earl Jr. (Dr. E. J.) sits down with us in a discussion about the importance of having a teacher that is well informed and prepared to teach the children. Teachers must understand the idea that with diversity in children, comes diversity in how they learn.

He comes with an extensive background in coaching, mentoring, and teaching. He is a professor training the teachers in courses such as Methods of Teaching Social Studies and Exploring Diversity at the University of North Texas. He has also authored many peer reviewed journal articles addressing topics related to culturally responsive teaching.

In an industry dominated by white females, is the black male teacher an endangered species? Let’s see if we can unpack this subject in Episode 6.
