A new study just out introduces another wrinkle: people who report having \u201cnon-celiac wheat sensitivity\u201d show evidence of systemic immune activation and impaired intestinal permeability. In short, NCWS is characterized by leaky gut, increased translocation of gut contents\u2014including microbial toxins\u2014into circulation, and moderate immune reactivity to a gluten challenge. It certainly seems quite real.
