Italy Correspondent Jo McKenna told Mike Hosking that the gunman had applied for asylum in Belgium in 2019 but first arrived on Italian island of Lampedusa in 2011, making his way to Europe from Italy.\\xa0

She said that the Italian Government is stepping up controls over concerns about similar attacks.\\xa0
