Elton John is one of the most iconic artists of the fifty years, but his lyricist Bernie Taupin is\\xa0nearly as\\xa0well known.\\xa0\\xa0\\xa0

The partnership between the two is known as one of the most successful in history, as the pair have been working together since the 1960s.\\xa0

It began with a talent advertisement from Liberty Records\\xa0and while neither of them passed the initial\\xa0audition, a connection was formed.\\xa0\\xa0

\\u201cIt\\u2019s beyond explanation, and I don\\u2019t think you really want to figure it out.\\u201d Taupin told Newstalk ZB\\u2019s Mike Hosking.\\xa0

\\u201cIf you think about things too much you might gum up the\\xa0works,\\u201d\\xa0he said.\\xa0\\xa0\\xa0

While it might be hard to believe considering the massive critical acclaim the music has received, Taupin said they\\xa0weren\\u2019t\\xa0that good in the beginning.\\xa0\\xa0\\xa0

\\u201cWe were just trying to find our way and we were sort of emulating what was current at the time,\\u201d he told Hosking.\\xa0

\\u201cWe we\\u2019re just doing bad versions of a lot of good stuff.\\u201d \\xa0\\xa0\\xa0

Eventually they\\xa0realised\\xa0that they needed to create something original, culminating in the creation of \\u2018Your Song,\\u2019 their first International Top 10 single.\\xa0\\xa0

While Taupin wrote the lyrics, Elton John was the one to put them\\xa0to\\xa0music.\\xa0\\xa0\\xa0

In the early days, Taupin explained that he\\xa0didn\\u2019t\\xa0really know what song writing entailed and\\xa0was \\u201cflying by the seat of his pants.\\u201d\\xa0\\xa0\\xa0

\\u201cThe fact that I got hooked up with somebody who could\\xa0actually make\\xa0sense of it was icing on the cake.\\u201d\\xa0\\xa0

Although most people would know of Bernie Taupin through his partnership with Elton John, going into his memoir expecting\\xa0417 pages of Elton would be a mistake.\\xa0\\xa0

\\u201cI think the subtitle of the book is a bit misleading if people think the entire book is about Elton and I\\u2019s adventures,\\u201d Taupin told the Newstalk ZB host.\\xa0

\\u201cHe only partakes\\xa0of\\xa0the book, probably about\\xa0a quarter of it.\\u201d\\xa0\\xa0\\xa0

Most of\\xa0the book focuses on Taupin\\u2019s\\xa0own life\\xa0and experiences to date: \\u201cIt doesn\\u2019t\\xa0get any better than what it is at the moment.\\u201d\\xa0\\xa0\\xa0

\\u201cThat\\u2019s not to say this is the end of my career,\\u201d he told Hosking. \\u201cWe\\u2019ve got lots more to do.\\u201d\\xa0\\xa0

He said that they\\u2019re going to start recording again now that Elton is done with touring.\\xa0

\\u201cWe can\\u2019t wait to get back in the studio.\\u201d\\xa0
