b'Maria Woodworth Etter (1844-1924) was a popular evangelist/faith healer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She became popular because of the strange occurrences that took place at her evangelistic meetings. People would go into trances and report seeing strange visions, fall on the floor and lay there for hours, shake violently, cry, weep, and do many other similar things you see in modern charismatic churches. In his book God’s Generals, Roberts Liardon says “There hasn\'t been a greater demonstrator of God’s spirit since the book of Acts in Pentecostal history than Mariah Woodworth Etter.

But Etter was no demonstrator of the Holy Spirit. She was a demonstrator of the demonic. In this episode, I’m going to show you, through newspaper articles from the late 19th century what was going on in her meetings. After that, we’re going to compare Hindu Kundalini, a demonic spirit, with what took place in those meetings, along with what is taking place in modern charismatic churches today.
