Tensions Grow Between Saudi Arabia and Iran

Leslie is rejoined by Ambassador Gary A. Grappo, who served numerous assignments at the State Department in Washington, D.C..

Ambassador Grappo explains the situation that is ongoing between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Iran's government accused Saudi Arabia of "intentionally" striking its embassy in Yemen, another incident that is likely to ratchet up tensions between Tehran and Riyadh and imperil efforts to forge peace in Syria and combat ISIS.

His expertise on these issues is something that we always appreciate on the program, as he served in Saudi Arabia and across the Middle East while with the state department. He claims that this feud stems from simmering anger from the 1979 Iranian revolution. We can't ignore the sectarian overtones to this conflict, and Gary says that we may see new alliances drawn.
