Strengthening U.S. Gun Laws in the Wake of Uvalde and Buffalo Mass Shootings

The guest host for today's show is Brad Bannon. Brad runs Bannon Communications Research, a polling, message development and media firm which helps labor unions, progressive issue groups and Democratic candidates win public affairs and political campaigns. His show, 'Deadline D.C. with Brad Bannon,' airs every Monday from 3-4pm ET.

Brad is first joined by Fred Guttenberg, a national advocate for strengthening America's gun laws.
The two discuss the new push for gun safety reforms in the wake of the Uvalde school shooting and the racist mass shooting in Buffalo.
Fred outlines what steps he believes that Congress can take through legislative action, and President Biden through executive orders, in order to reduce both the frequency of mass shootings and the number of victims per shooting.

Fred Guttenberg began his public life after the murder of his beautiful 14-year-old daughter Jaime in the Parkland school shooting on Feb 14, 2018. The day after the murder, Fred decided to attend a public vigil in Parkland. While there, the Mayor asked him to speak. His words shook a nation and he has not stopped since.
Fred and his wife Jennifer now spend time challenging our elected officials to do more. They began a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to Jaime’s life called “Orange Ribbons for Jaime”, and Fred created a 501(c)(4) called “Orange Ribbons For Gun Safety”. He has been a regular on TV news programs and a myriad of online and print media. Through the formation of the non-profit, this is now his full-time mission.
These experiences helped to drive Fred to write the book, "Find the Helpers: What 9/11 and Parkland Taught Me About Recovery, Purpose, and Hope." The book is also a Nautilus Silver Award Winner.

During the second half of the show, Brad is joined by Mica Soellner, Congressional Reporter for 'The Washington Times,' where she covers the House, with a focus on Democrats.

They discuss the prospects for action on new gun laws in Congress, and preview the congressional hearings on the Jan. 6th Capitol insurrection, which begin this Thursday in the House.
Next, they talk about G.O.P. minority outreach, the mood of the Democratic House caucus, the status of Trump's hold on GOP members of Congress, and what Americans can expect if Republicans win control of Congress in November.

Mica's Twitter handle is @MicaSoellnerDC.

Brad writes a political column every Sunday for 'The Hill.' He's on the National Journal's panel of political insiders and is a national political analyst for WGN TV and Radio in Chicago and KNX Radio in Los Angeles.
