Surrendering to Motherhood | Letting Yourself Be a Parent

b'Today we discuss motherhood and how it’s something that many of us love, but loving motherhood in no way means that it’s easy. We talk about taking care of your newborn, which tends to be a harder stage for Adam than for Rosie. We mention the app called The Wonder Weeks and the great use it has been for us in knowing about the beginning stages of our newborn. We discuss the fact that it’s easier to just accept that you don’t know what you’re doing. Every child is different and requires us to be open to learning new things as we adjust. We talk about the fact that some people end up trying to do too much as a parent and forget to just surrender and take a step back for a bit, easing up on the harder tasks, especially if you’re pregnant. We tell how we broke our own rule and worked in front of the kids, and then the kids became like Lord of the Flies. We discuss telling stories to our children and that it can be a nice thing to just surrender to parenthood and relax with the children, who even take up the stories themselves at times.

“You Might meet somebody and they might say, ‘Oh it’s terrible, it’s awful!’ But really they don’t mean that when they’re saying it, but to somebody who doesn’t have children, they’re like, ‘Oh I totally do not want children yet.’ It’s kind of like to me it’s satisfying. Even when it’s hard, it’s satisfying. 15:18
