b'Today we talk with Alexis and Alan Tanner, parents to 5 children and hosts of the “Parenting In Real Life” podcast. We discuss how to talk to kids and not get angry at them, but instead to talk calmly. Good parenting isn’t necessarily easy parenting, and it’s OK to try harder with them and be tired. Alexis tells us that her and Alan are naturally very patient people, but having children has definitely pushed the wall of their patience and they have had to learn how to adapt. “If you’re just always looking for the good in your kids, then soon that’s all you will see” 13:28. Rosie tells us a story of how giving certain titles to your child can influence them, often in negative ways that may affect their attitudes and how they view themselves. We also discuss seasonal traditions we have with our families, and then things the kids have to do to get involved, such as a chore chart and helping around the house.

“I’ve actually seen the biggest results from my kids when I’ve ever done that where I’ve apologized and told them I’ve made a mistake. It’s so funny because they start to have empathy for you and they start to console you, ‘It’s OK, you’re a good person.’ And you feel like you’re the child and they’re the adult, but in that moment they realize that you’re equal. Just because they’re younger doesn’t mean they’re unequal to you.” 8:13
